Understanding Wood Finishing B. Flexner, ISBN 0-7621-0191-1 Despite the subject, this book is a joy to read. It explains the difference between the finishing options, and how to apply the finishing in practise. It also rejects a large number of myths related to finishing. A textbook example on how to write, well, a textbook ;-)

Normaly, you have to choose from either a factory build guitar (usually a copy of a handful of clasic designs), or go all the way by building a guitar youself (or have a luthier do it). At Warmoth you choose the wood, the shape of the body, the type of pick-up, the shape of the neck etc. from a large number of options. Then they make it to order. High quality. The only thing they do not do is set necks, and you have to assemble/adjust yourself.
